Gute Bauten, Zürich

Since 1945, the city of Zurich has been awarding a prize for Gute Bauten (Good buildings). "Not only the responsible authorities, but also the entire population have become more aware of good architectural design within the city. This understanding must be promoted." stated in the minutes of city council meeting, 12th October 1945. In the Debordian "détournement" sense, the exhibition concept makes use of the advertising board familiar to urban spaces: as large tables and as an illuminated wall in the former industrial hall (Hermann Herter, 1930) - to the scale of which they are directed, thus making the hall itself an exhibition object - and as a place of an actual exhibition of architectural photographs which are placed throughout the entire city.
