The first independent commission: the insertion of a thermally insulated chamber into an existing Tower House, for guests. The principal: each wall is clad in a hanging and standing element which overlap to create a low horizon, thus establishing a new relationship between the narrow, low room and the existing windows, and articulating the space as a sleeping chamber. Determining qualities include the shine given by the planed, compressed fibers of the pine planks, and the reflections on the asphalt paint of the ceiling (a Scottish Mackintosh-Sky).
